300 first year med students are receiving what is the United States if not the worlds first mandated plant based nutrition program for medical students at the Wayne State University School of Medicine.

Medical doctors in the U.S. are notoriously under trained in diet and nutrition with the extent of it being one or two weeks at most teaching outdated ideas about it in most programs. This new program created with input from the schools student helmed Plant Based Advocacy Group will be a month long and include all of the latest science backed facts about a plant based diet.

The programs curriculum features, lectures, videos, quizzes and comprehensive educational materials from both PBNG and of course the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM) that dives in depth into the nuts and bolts of the science behind the diet.

There will also be cooking demos where students and chefs will give out delicious samples and their knowledge. There will also be a meet and greet with over 25 patients that have reversed or gotten their health issues and diseases into remission thanks to a whole foods plant based diet.

Joel Kahn, MD, Robert Breakey, MD, Caroline Trapp, RN, PhD, Margret Swenor, DO, Mary Roberts, PT, and Lisa McDowell, RD who all center their practices around plant based diets will all be coming to pass on their experiences and knowledge to the students.

“Study after study has demonstrated that a plant-based diet is not only healthier, but could even help prevent, treat, and reverse some of the leading causes of pain and suffering in America and across the world, The success of PBNG’s Plant Based Curriculum Enhancement will have national implications for the future of clinical care and medical education. Armed with a more comprehensive understanding of plant-based nutrition, these future physicians will be better prepared to combat the devastating effects of chronic disease that millions of American’s face every year.” said PBNG president Lakshman (Lucky) Mulpuri.
